Making a will is probably one of the most important things you may ever do in your lifetime. Your Will ensures that your property is divided according to your wishes. Not having a Will, or having a poorly drafted Will, can create considerable hardship for family, friends, and business partners.

If the deceased person did not have a Will, their property will be divided according to The Intestate Succession Act.

With a properly drafted Will, the administration of your estate is easier, quicker, and usually less expensive. As well, a properly drafted Will gives you the opportunity to manage your estate, taking into consideration such things as capital gains and income tax issues.

Blended families, second marriages, spousal relationships, dependant's rights, spousal rights, and joint property are some of the issues which must be addressed in the proper preparation of a Will. As things change in our lives, we should all review our Will at least once a year to ensure it is still what we want to have happen to our property upon our death.
